Burchard has become one of the most commissioned composers and for good reason. His madrigal style is consistently enthralling, with an easy harmonic flow, gentle suspensions, and a fluid density that is uniquely his own. The Burn’s text is famously familiar, but the tune is completely original. The piece begins with the introduction of the theme sung by unison sopranos. Parts are added until the full divisi complement of voices are encircling each other in typical Burchard fashion. Medium in difficulty and appropriate for any concert situation.
