Jacqueline Hairston


Jacqueline Hairston, composer/arranger, musical educator, vocal coach and pianist, is former Choir Director at The Center for Spiritual Awareness in Sacramento CA. Known as Jacqui, the previous San Francisco Bay Area legend, a well-known consummate musician, is a published and celebrated award-winning composer with a distinguished record in arranging African-Diaspora music and music of diverse genres. A National Preserver of the Spiritual, Jacqui Hairston was honored in February of 2012 with a full concert of her choral arrangements at historic Carnegie Hall, New York, as she conducted a nearly 300-voice choir, chamber orchestra, and celebrated solo artists. She received her training at The Juilliard School of Music, Howard University Music School, and Columbia University. Known for her arrangements of concert spirituals, Jacqui arranged eight spirituals for soprano Kathleen Battle’s Grammy-winning Sony album, “Angels Glory” with renowned guitarist Christopher Parkening; two works for the Oakland East Bay Symphony in 2002 and 2004; a score for Denyce Graves and Orlando opera in conjunction with the Negro Spiritual Foundation as its Composer-in-Residence; and orchestrations of a Christmas Spiritual for diva Grace Bumbry on German television
