About Paul A. Smith

Paul A. Smith embarked on his musical journey under the tutelage of Margaret Bonds, a trailblazing African-American composer and pianist, renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to American music. Today, as a distinguished conductor and accomplished musician holding a Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California, Smith has garnered international acclaim. He has toured globally with esteemed American ensembles, including Roger Wagner and the William Hall Chorales, and served as Assistant Director of the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers while showcasing his talents as a soloist.

Notably, Smith has conducted the World Youth Choir across Spain and directed prominent ensembles like the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and Pacific Symphony. Currently, as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at California State University, Northridge, Smith continues to leave an indelible mark on the choral landscape. Additionally, his creation, the Paul Smith Singers, comprising top-tier performers in the United States, has earned widespread acclaim for their versatility, appearing alongside prestigious orchestras such as the Pacific Symphony and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Furthermore, Smith’s prowess as a conductor earned him an invitation to perform at the esteemed American Choral Directors Association’s National Convention in 2011, solidifying his status as a sought-after talent both nationally and globally.
